You know, I don't know if THAT picture is real or not.
I do know that my old man got taken to Israel on behalf of Honeywell in the late 80's and he had original, old school photographs of Israeli young'ins in public with various types of weapons that did include older M-16 style rifles. These were not bikini shots, but just photos from cafe's and about town where people were going about their daily lives.
He asked his interpreter about the weapons and got a funny response. He asked if it was normal for young adults in Isreal (they have a 2 year mandatory military service in the country) to carry weapons off post and off duty in civilian clothes.
The interpreter allegedly told him: "Yes. And before you ask, your pick up line better not be sh*t" and he laughed.
I would not be surprised if it was real, but I think it's probably not normal. Active duty military members are required to carry weapons with them when off duty, but I don't know about an M-16 variant when Israel adopted the Galil and their own bull-pup, the IMI Tavor TAR-21 some time ago.
Sure is nice scenery - either way.
