A couple of buddies and I were having drinks at home, and my buds told me there was a knife law passed you can carry whatever size knife you want? We just started to drink and none of us are lightweights. Can someone shed some light on the subject?

That's a handy guide. I just learned whenever I travel into Rochester, NY (daily), I'm breaking the law. I'll be sure to get a blade 3" or less right away.

First, that is NOT what the new law says.
Second, the new law does not go into effect until July this year.

It says that counties, cities, towns, etc in Georgia cannot make laws on carrying, making knives etc that are more restrictive than Georgia State law, with the exception of making rules about knives and courthouses, etc.

It is a "preemption" bill- takes that right away from lower govt, reserves that right to state govt, does NOT change STATE law in any other way.
