Maybe in America a bounty hunter wouldn't last 5 minutes here.

As you can see very few of these restrictions from state to state involve firearms.

Also, federal agents are covered under LEOSA and can carry in all states and territories.

I have met a couple of bounty hunters; I haven't met one I would leave alone with my wallet.

The absolute scummiest landlord I ever had the misfortune of meeting was a retiring/part-time bounty hunter. A lawyer buddy of mine did some asking around and advised that this guy would break more laws than the people he was "recovering"; he was all about the money and no interest in the law or "cleaning up the streets".

I would assume that there must be SOME decent bounty hunters out there, somewhere.

Lucky. I'd never go hungry if I could do that in my state.

Everyone I have met who claimed to be a bounty hunter was an undercover police officer. I can actually say I have never met a real live bounty hunter. Why would a bail bondsman deal with the risk of hiring a bounty hunter when the police are all to willing to locate and arrest a person who didn't show up for court or his bail has been revoked?

It is my understanding that the bondsman loses his bail if the police recover the fugitive, while a recovery of the fugitive by the bondsman's bounty hunter preserves the bondsman's money/bail fund, more or less.

A Federal officer may only carry a weapon issued to and approved by the agency. All private off duty weapons or personal back up weapons require a permit from the agents state of residency. The Federal officer is subject to the same laws as any other citizen regarding a non-issued weapon.
