Default Former U.S. Military sites in Germany

Found a site that Jagermeister might like, has a lot of pictures with comments from former US military locations in Germany.

A lot of them are abandoned, very sad to see them go to waste.

Here is the link:

Thanks.
Great to go back to Germany.
And this was my home for a little over a year.
The 193rd. Military Police Company.
Just outside of Dahn.
59- 9-60
Now a commercial site.
And a look down the company street.
Building on the right was our mess hall.

I was stationed at Sembach AB from 06/86 to 10/89 and Ramstein AB 03/03 to 04/08.

1st time I was in the barracks and 2nd time was on Vogelweh and then off base the last 4 years.

Some of the old exercise locations within the Kaiserslautern Community are either turned over to Germany government (State or local), purchased by German civilians and/or abandoned, not meeting German living and working standards.

The wife and I miss Germany, since her family lives there and then comes the other misses, i.e. travel, Christmas festive season, food, BEER.

I live 7 minutes from Sembach. The base now belongs to the Army. Heidelberg is pretty much closed now and they transferred over to the K-town footprint. The housing on Sembach is not used anymore. Looks like something from an post apocalyptic movie. High grass and trees covering the entrances of the stairwells. Large stone piles and sidewalks covered in weed and tree limbs. I will make some pics and post for you. Thanks for the post.

Check out:
www.thirdreichruins.com

Goes back a bit further, WWII and postwar shots of the same places.
I know I've posted this before but it's a great site, so I throw a reminder out every once in a while.

Ok I'm a little confused which isn't at all unusual. I was stationed at Sembach for 8 months from about April till the end of the year 1969. All I remember being there was the bomb dump I was stationed at. We had a couple thousand 750 lb. bombs and the rest were nukes. (my job was munition maintenance) Our main base was Ramstein which is were we did our in and out processing and went to the PX and things like that. Our barracks were quonset huts but I rented an upstairs apartment in Otterburg from an old lady everyone called Oma (Grandmother). Around the end of 1969 they started shipping out all the nukes and I was transfered to RAF Welford in England. btw I was in the USAF.

Sembach built a flight line for A10s and recon planes. The place built up a lot. Large housing area, two schools, commissary and AAFES. . The planes left after end of Cold War. The base proper started to run down and downsize. Last year the DA took over and is building back up. The schools, shopette, commissary, club, gym and bowling center continued to stay open.

A10's and the EF-111 from England would come in for training exercise's. I was at Sembach when they built that big green hangar for the C-130 Compass Call birds and that was expensive back then, now it is used as storage for whatever!

I remember the discussion at one time or another that the auto hobby shop and others were trying to bring back drag racing on the flight line!

Found a youtube video:

Sembach! Place has not changed since leaving Germany 2008.
