Default Ford truck question ?

My cousin owed us some money so when he got his new truck he gave us his old one to pay us back. Works out good, our old farm truck died last winter It runs great, and will probably never leave the property. Problem is. my sister and i took it out muddin last night, now its stuck in 4 wheel drive. Anybody know what the trick is to get it out ? Dont want to tell my husband i might have tore it up already lol.....

Is it the switch on the dash or the old shift lever?

I drive an 04 F150 with the dash mounted switch and 4 High, in or out is no problem but 4 Low requires:

1. Foot on break
2. Transmission to "neutral'
3. Flip switch from 4 Low to 2 High

Many of the older shift models work the same way, just replace number 3 above with "shift" from 4 Low to 2 High...

Good luck.

Tack

Reverse is worth a try if you haven't done it.

some trucks with 4wd need to be driven in reverse to disengage them. usually about 10-20 feet is all it takes. another question, does it have manual locking hubs on the front axle? if they are manual hubs, they will be marked with, FREE and LOCK on them. check and make sure they are in the FREE position.
