What a beautiful tribute to River Rat. I'm sure he'd appreciate it. I don't think he got out much to see things like that in recent years. Thank you for sharing those photos.

Default The latest on Toby....

Okay, guys, this is not looking good. River Rat's friend in Vegas researched getting Toby sent to me. Here is the bad news. None of the airlines will fly the dog in temperatures above 80 degrees. Well, it's well over 100 degrees in Vegas right now. The landlord is taking care of Toby but things are not working out well. When people come to the landlord's place to pay rent or whatever, Toby is uncooperative. Kirk tells me Toby is usually a great dog. I'm pretty sure Toby is having issues due to his recent circumstances. The drive to Vegas is over 1,700 miles. It would be unreasonable for me to drive to get Toby. They are moving Toby back into Bob's trailer where the dog will be alone in the trailer he lived in with Bob. His only interactions will be someone making sure the dog is fed and watered. Kirk told me they want to bring the dog to the animal shelter. I begged for a few days to see what I can do. Kirk agreed.

I am asking you all to help me problem solve here. Is there any OTR truckers who could help. Anyone near Vegas who would like to give adopting Toby a try. I am unsure about the dog's temperament and I would NOT recommend anyone with children give this dog a try. Toby also had an altercation with one of the landlord's dogs so that might very well be an issue, too.

Ideally, I would like to get my hands on this dog and see what I could do for Toby and, indirectly, for Bob.

I know there are many wonderful people here. Let's see what we can do for Toby in memory of Bob. At this point, if I can't come up with some solution in a few days, Toby goes to a shelter and that isn't what Bob or I want. But if I can't do anything else, that is the only option for those in Vegas who are caring for this dog at this moment.

Come on, guys, let's get creative here and find some sort of solution that will work for Toby in Bob's memory.

If we had enough members between you and Vegas I'd suggest a relay race of sorts. Someone picks him up and drives a certain distance, passes him off to the next person, and then he gets to you.

It's a long shot...

I wish I was closer, I'd drive 100 miles to help you out WOC.

Here is an option. They offer ground transport.

http://pettransportservice.com/

I'm willing to chip in - we need to get this done for River Rat and Toby.

I don't have the destination address, they have a quote request form online that WOC will need to complete.

I would help a relay leg if needed, maybe meet someone in OK City and relay to Joplin or Springfield Missouri.

Though I believe Kirk is doing what he thinks is right, it was American Airlines that said they only transport below 80 degrees. River Rat had all the information from Delta. I think I will personally call Delta and see if the <80 degree rule applies to them, too. I kind of get the feeling Kirk was more concerned with the cost and hassle. But the thing is, this is what River Rat wanted and Kirk now has River Rat's checking account. I think it is a hassle for the landlord to be taking care of Toby.

I have a feeling this isn't going to turn out like I thought it would.

Why is nothing as easy as it should be. Still working on trying to get Toby. It's not looking so good. I'm not getting much cooperation from the LV end. He doesn't seem to want to hassle with fulfilling River Rat's final wishes for his dog.
