Mad, MAD kudos to Winds, Tri, Racer, DFlynt and all the others who are making sure Toby has a place to call home...You guys are the best!

When my Mom passed the only loose end was re-homing the dog so I know how stressful it must have been for RR...and poor Toby...

Don't look at it as an ending, but a new beginning...
All the Kudos go to Winds and Tri and Racer.

All arrangements for Toby's journey are being made at the Las Vegas end by two good friends of River Rat's named Kirk and Phil. River Rat had all the shipping info from Delta airlines before he died. Kirk has control and is a signee on River Rat's check book and all the funds will come from River Rat's account, as River Rat expected and planned for with Kirk. I have been sleeping and awoke to a message on my answering machine from Kirk who said he's been in contact with Phil and they are figuring this all out. There are some wonderful people in this world, isn't there? When members here post things like "I can't stand people" I get perplexed. I meet great people everywhere I turn. You just have to stop and notice them.

I will take receipt of Toby but I can't give Toby a permanent home. I will give him a home for a bit to check temperament, how he is with cats, other dogs, children. I already have 3 dogs (two too many, really) and by city ordinance, I am at my limit. I feel my duty to River Rat, as I told him I would, was to take care of Toby for him. My goal is to settle Toby in and to find Toby a very loving home with kind and patient people that will care for Toby for the rest of his days. I will be picky about who gets to love and care for Toby. I know River Rat has a watchful eye on me.

Way to go Tri70! Looks like it worked out for you WOC. I know that you will give Toby a good home, and RR will be looking in on you both.

Winds: Gator Has WAY too many toys for a 2.5 Y.O. Bulldog, and is "squeaker" aggressive (rips up any toy with one in it) so please P M me a Mailing address and I will Send you a JW rubber Pet Ball or two for Toby, from Gator,, as well as a Bag of Gator's Fave Blue Buffalo Treats!

Since this thread is Flowers of the forest I took these today for him on a walk in the woods. The largest of them went maybe 3" in diameter. RIP RR.

I would appreciate that, as I'm sure Toby will, too. I'm curious to see if he's a tennis ball freak. My Border Collie will not chase a tennis ball but he loves to catch a frisbee. Dr, I will take you up on that offer when I get Toby in my custody. I have one of those tennis ball throwers. If Toby likes chasing a tennis ball, the thrower will go with him to his permanent home.

Astroman, I am simply returning a favour for the dozens and dozens of wonderful things people have done for me in my times of need............and believe me, there's been plenty of times of need for me. River Rat was a good man who sent me questions here through PM about how to find his way around the forum. We then moved on to emails when I see he needed help in December to get his dog back. He was a Vietnam Vet and anyone who knows anything about me knows the Vietnam Vets hold a very special place in my heart and always will. We had many good conversations through email, most of which I kept. River Rat was a good and honest man who worked hard all his life. He was alone, basically, except for a few friends. He had some very poor health, quite possibly due to his service in Vietnam. River Rat never complained about his situation. It was so easy to be a good friend to him. He loved his dog and worried about his dog as he expressed in his emails to me. Would I turn my back on River Rat or his beloved Toby? Absolutely not. Not in a million years. I'm "paying it forward".
