Fiction you read?

I grew up on the works of Mickey Spillane, read all of his books. When I went in the military in 72, I started reading "The Destroyer" series and stayed with that for years. Then I read everything Tom Clancy wrote, my favorite in his books was "Without Remorse". Lately I've been reading the series done by Vince Flynn, his hero kind of reminds me of Jack Bauer in that he does what's necessary to achieve victory.

What do y'all read (for violent fiction)???

I'm a cheap fiction whor*. I'll read any good action, cop, si-fi, mystery book, especially if I can borrow from a friend. I don't stick to any one writer or series but will pick up a next issue if in paperback. I did go through all the Dune series. I've read some of Flynn and like him. Last night I started "The Last Patriot" by Brad Thor. Third book of his I've read.

The Wheel of Time is a good series, although really really really long and not done yet. The Dark Tower by Stephen King is great too.

I tried reading the "Net Force" series created by Tom Clancy but written by Steve Perry. I read a couple of the books but couldn't really get into them, I want to read some real Tom Clancy stuff though. Any suggestions on a good book of his to read first? If an author doesn't draw me in the first time, I don't usually go back for seconds.

Seconded on the Heinlein. If you like military or action type stuff, check out Matthew Reilly

I'd go with my favorite "Without Remorse". It's the story of how Mr Clark became Mr Clark (Willem Dafoe's part from the movie Clear & Present Danger).

Most of Clancy's book chronicle Jack Ryan from teacher to CIA analyst to beyond.

I looked up Brad Thor and I'll have to check him out...

I'll check to see if I still have the first two I read from him. I never re-read because there is so much good new stuff, so I'll send them to you if I still have them.

I like Ken Follett and Michael Crichton.

The Wheel of time series is good but as pointed out it is not finished, unforunately the writer died so I'm not sure if it will be finished now. Terry Goodkinds's "The Sword of Truth" series is pretty with the one titled Faith of the Fallen being a pretty good slame against socialism.

Robert Ludlum (Eric Lustbader), James Patterson, David Baldacci, John Sandford, Brad Thor( the upcoming Robert Ludlum), Jeffrey Deaver. And ALL of Tom Clancy's novels.
