keep the seat belt fastened

Lots of redundant systems to mitigate mechanical failure.

Not that this will help but human error is far more likely to cause an issue than turbulence. The last thing you need to worry about is the materials and equipment, they are built to a standard and do their thing. humans on the other hand...

Hey rurak - you are courageous, and I'm glad to see that you do not allow your fears to dictate your mode of transportation. You are teaching your daughter that even if she is afraid of something, that it should not stop her from enjoying her life and exploring this wonderful world we live in.

Godspeed to you and your family!

It's a control issue. I have the same problem in a lot of things. Flying isn't one of them, but I can still sympathize with you. Riding with someone else driving scares the crap out of me. I flat out refuse to take a cab. I don't know the driver, and I don't know how well the cab has been maintained.

I'll tell you something else that gets to me. Heights, but the high place has to be connected to the ground. Tall buildings, lookout points along the highway, walkways between buildings. I'm a basket case. I went to the Daytona 500 a few years back, and our seats were four rows from the top looking straight down pit road. I had serious doubts about whether I was going to see that race or not. If the tickets weren't a gift from my daughter I would have bagged the whole thing. I couldn't stand to see her money wasted.

The really funny thing is that I loved rope rescue work. I have to inspect the rope and gear, and I have to tie the knots, but I have no problem at all with it. It's a control thing. I didn't build the stands at Daytona, but the rope is in my control. I can hang off the side of a building, but I can't look over the edge of it unless I'm tied off.

Good luck today, and have fun. Do some people watching at the airport. Try to guess their story.

I have on fear of flying. I do have a fear of dropping out of the sky in a fireball.

I hate when people say more die in cars because I have to remind them most car accidents don't kill 200 people at once. And what if the plane hits a car or few on a highway?!?!?!!?

And sky diving? The plane better be on fire if you expect me to jump out.
That's no ta parachute??!!! it's a napsack!!!!

You'll be fine. Slow down. Take a few deep breaths. Please don't freak out. Talk yourself through this. I'll be flying Monday and I feel the same way you do. Hang in there, Rurak. You know you'll be safe. Talk yourself down.

Man up, and don't project your fears onto your child. It will put a damper on everybody's vacation. You WILL be fine and you WILL enjoy yourselves.
