Maybe not famous to all nut Im pretty sure their is at least a few hundred cattle cars full of prior recruits that heard this form SFC Boseman, My Drill Sgt in Ft Gordon GA in 1980. He had endless lines of inspiration and wit. One of my favorites was, "My heart pumps pure S4it for my dead grandmother, what do you think it pumps for you?"

I don't see it as a comment on religion. I think it relates more to this definition of 'faith.'

faith
complete trust or confidence in someone or something : I.E. 'this restores one's faith in politicians.'

Here's one about faith.

"'Faith' means not wanting to know what is true." Friedrich Nietzsche.

Here's a couple from Thomas Paine:

“Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.”

“Attempting to debate with a person who has abandoned reason is like giving medicine to the dead.”

“The duty of a patriot is to protect his country from its government.”

Some more Twainisms...

“If you don’t read the newspaper you are uninformed; if you do read the newspaper you are misinformed.” -Mark Twain

"Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress….But then I repeat myself." -Mark Twain

And a Churchill:

"I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." -Winston Churchill

"Democracy must be something more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner." - James Bovard

"Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." - Frederic Bastiat

"Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." - Ronald Reagan

That's hilarious and hit the nail right on the head. Thanx for posting
And I didn't realize Twain was a philosopher just thought he was an accomplished author

Reagan had several good ones, actually. Another favorite was ->

"The government is like a baby’s alimentary canal: a happy appetite at one end and no responsibility at the other." - Ronald Reagan

I've always been fond of anti-governmental rhetoric and quotes from highly seated government officials.

As for authors and philosophers, the two go hand in hand.

Not exactly a quote, but a fine example of Mr. Reagan.
