There is no such thing as a loaded gun. Plain and simple rack the slide back and take out the magazine then proceed to clean it.

I don't buy the "I was cleaning it" stories. They were simply dicking around and got careless. They can't say that though so they make up the BS about cleaning and it went off.

Drop the magazine FIRST!

THEN clear the weapon several times!

Visually inspect the weapon to ensure it is empty.

Nope!!!!

Remove the magazine FIRST

Rack the slide SECOND

If there is even one round in the mag, your procedure will leave the gun loaded, making your first statement false.

I'm sure it was just an honest mistake, but I think the correction had to be made.

Dip $hit. At least the article pointed out that there is likely more to the story and guns don't go off by themselves.

Believe it or not but this is not that bad. I am a huge sports fan and on one of the sites I go to this was brought up and a guy in there said his friend has done this TWICE. I asked him how it happened twice and I never got a response.
