Default The Exceptionals

I see some of you write. I like that.

Allow me to make an introduction to a concept that you're likely unaware of if you're not a Supporting Member. I like to do little novels in the next tier of membership. To my recollection, I've never posted one in the open forums.

It's not elitism, it's a little thing I do to pay homage to what I consider to be close friends.

This will be a first, then. I introduce you to a ragtag group of hardened individuals. Short in temper, long in tooth, and ready to liberate the oppressed.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is how it's done.

Nitrox's hands were cold, the neoprene gloves had stopped being warm 20 minutes ago.

The chisel edge of his diving knife bit under the oyster shell, and he pried, wrists aching. A pop, oyster opens, and there it is. digging through the slime, a perfect black pearl. His laugh bubbled around his rebreather, sending blue bubbles of joy cascading to the surface.

He needed the pearl for the ring he was having made to propose to his girl. He was cash strapped, but determined to do right by her.

He slowly drifted to the surface, nothing could wreck his day now. Something dark on the beach as he broke surface. Oh, no. Not him.

J.D. reached a tanned hand forward, and hoisted Nitrox out.

"We've got a job."

I am eagerly awaiting with A minnow placed under my tongue in anticipatory ecstasy.

The cables of the Total Gym were humming as massive pecs showed them no mercy. The glistening pecs were attached to Dog2000, and he wailed the device like a man possesed.

Driving him along were two photographs affixed to the basement wall in front of him.

Cathy, his woman. Actually, his ex-woman, according to the hastily scrawled note she left under the magnet on the refrigerator.

No, now she was the woman of the man in the photgraph next to Cathy. Not that it was needed. The man in the photo was in national syndication, righting wrongs as a Texas Ranger, 5 nights a week, and longer during the Walker Marathons.

Dog ceased. Muscle failure. He picked up a glass of pizz warm creatine, and slugged it down. He closed his eyes, and inhaled, the dank of the basement and the sweat of his shorts filling his nostrils. "Damn you, Cathy, and double damn you, Chuck Norris."

The phone next to him sprang to life, and he picked it up.

"Yeah? A job? Yeah, I'm on board. Hell yeah!"
