The Leap Year was introduced in OUR calendar in about 1582. The Mayans did not use leap years. So since 1582, every 4 years, we had an extra day, meaning that the Maya calendar moved AHEAD one day.
THEIR calendar actually reached 21 Decemeber 107 days ago. The end of the Maya calendar has already happened, and we are still here. (Well, I am- don't know about you....)
Tell her to worry about pimples, politicians, and whether that boy with the freckles really likes her- but not about the calendar.

Well, yes- but a couple of tequillas makes you perk up pretty good.

I'll be shooting my AR Friday (if the charging handle get here in time), so if it's really the end of the world, I'll die doing what I love.

Actually there are a lot of people who can read the Mayan language, it was deciphered years ago.

^ yeah, the Mayan calendar does end on Dec. 21, but the speculation that it's then end of the world is just that. Speculation.
I was watching an interview with an actual Mayan a few years back and IIRC, she said that Dec. 21 is not the end of the world, its the beginning of a new era.

Funny you should ask Nightstalker, I cant read it but it makes a great spare tire! I do know someone who can read it and has lived in the Maya Ruins a good part of his life! His name is Professor of Astronomy and Physics Anthony (Tony) Aveni, he has taught at Colgate forever and a day! Funny guy, jokester and pretty creative when it comes to teaching. He is one of the worlds most knowledgeable people on this exact topic and has written a book on it called "The End of Time".
http://anthonyfaveni.com/
I did buy the book, he signed it and I gave it to my Uncle but I cut right to the chase and asked Tony directly what hes doing the day after, his reply "the same things Ive done the last 30 years". He taught up to the last day of finals last Friday and is scheduled classes for next semester so I didnt squander my 401K!
