My father loves drinking buttermilk, also enjoys it with cornbread crumbled into it. I wasn't paying attention; i've become pretty good at pouring a drink without looking.

Buttermilk with cornbread crumbled into it, a little salt sprinkled on top, is just a good southern treat!

You can have it all year long. It really doesn't look too difficult to make. But.....raw eggs? Ewww......

I'll bet the home made is waaaay better than the store bought. Anyone want to try this recipe and give us a report? I would but I don't like egg nog.

Gross!!! Not because of the raw eggs (as I eat them in cookie dough) but because it's thick as hell. Yuck! I only drink skim milk too.

Anyone want to try some Southern Eggnog?

Quote:
SOUTHERN EGGNOG

1 lb. superfine sugar
1 pt. bourbon
1/2 pt. rum
1/4 pt. brandy
9 egg yolks
1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream

Put sugar in large punch bowl. Pour bourbon, rum and brandy over sugar and let stand for 3 hours. Beat egg yolks well and stir, slowly, into mixture. Just before serving, add vanilla ice cream, stirring slowly until lumps disappear. Serves 20.

The raw eggs grossed me out. Yes, I eat cookie dough and brownie batter that has raw eggs in it but somehow drinking a drink with 9 raw eggs (or whatever) is just gross to me. And I agree. It's gaggably thick. Egg Nog - The Club House
