Well, that was pretty anti-climactic, only down 300. Sorry for the false alarm. The futures haven't locked up like that in decades though--definitely not a healthy sign for the markets.

I think Anderson Silva is going to play Economy to Patrick Cote's Wall Street Investor this weekend. What do you think there Quasi? Want to put some recently lost paper retirement money on it??

Gold is up today after a week or more of declining, which may possibly be indicative of something bad. Gold is still being dumped into the market by the ton, so the price rise may indicate the value of the dollar is going down. This is predicted given the huge amount of money that has flooded the market recently. If gold and other commodities continue to rise, that may be bad news for the dollar.

Not even worth the PPV. Silva can beat all comers...unless he goes DOWN a class and fights GSP...that'd be the fight of the ages.

Yeah, I wouldn't bet on Cote with someone else's money. Silva and GSP would be a great fight. I'm not really that excited about tonight's card, but I'm still gonna watch it and drink some beers.

Watch the markets tomorrow, should be interesting. We closed below critical support levels on Friday and recently triggered a new Dow Theory sell signal. Technical analysis is hit-or-miss, but odds favor another drop of 20% or more in the next few weeks. Hopefully I'm wrong about this. Hopefully Obama has something up his sleeve and is able to regain investor confidence. I'm not counting on it though.

Obama has plenty up is sleeve, but he cannot regain something he has never had. If he sticks to his campaign promises, he will tax the begeesus out of their profits anyway. Investor confidence and Obama Presidency are opposites.

Oh, since no one has been paying attention to you, nice try (you got me) with the ancient thread rehab.

I had originally created this thread as a place for running commentary about the economy and current state of the financial markets. Maybe someone finds it interesting/useful. If not, at least there's only one thread you have to ignore.

skullcrusher: I don't disagree with you, but I'm trying to avoid the political finger-pointing. At this point, we really need something to start working or we could be looking at an Argentina or Iceland situation in the future. Whatever your politics, if you're rooting for Obama to fail, you're basically rooting for the U.S. to fail.

With all due respect, this is a load of crap. It's the CITIZENS of the United States that drive her success. The only thing a president can do is remove the obstacles that we face in our efforts to succeed in life, or to impose more control over us, like Obama is doing.

Rooting for Obama is an endorsement of socialism, which has been proven to be an utter failure. Obama, in his very short time in office, has been a disaster. I want him to fail, and I don't care who knows it. He's gonna go down in history as a miserable, single-term president, like Jimmy Carter.
