I am 74.
At the point where I do not feel comfortable driving.
I would drive only about mid day when traffic wasn't too bad.
My car insurance was cancelled because I was down and out with the flu,
and didn't renew.
My Son tells me when he gets a week day off he will take me to the AAA
so I can get a new policy.
I need to drive so I can get some food once in a while.
And down to the gun store or the range.
I hate this not being able to get out and about.
Walked about two miles today to the drug store and back.
Didnt mind that, need exercise.
Cant afford a taxi.
Ask a friend HAH
thats a whole other forum.
So here I set,
At least I know I probably Should Not drive.

shadecorp , you need your wheels , but where you live ain't making it easy..!
EAST LA......Eeeek..! If I lived closer , I would no doubt drive you , but you need your freedom , wheels.! Call your son and do what ever is necessary..!

Be the model of responsibility and only you know to drive or not to drive..!
Look into low cost trans. ! There are many programs to aid the elderly.!
Seek out this help , they are out there.! I know they exist. A few years ago , I had to set my Mother-in-Law up with such a program..!

Good Luck , you ain't done till the fat Lady sings and I don't see no Fat Lady..!

There are many opportunities for transportation in our area. My 82-year-old mother uses ParaCruz, the public transportation option in Santa Cruz. I imagine that there are opportunities near you as well. It is not too inconvenient, but she does have to plan a day in advance for her ride. It costs a few bucks a ride but I figure it is cheaper than owning and maintaining a car.
