Not that I noticed but we got a lot of rain that day so that might have knocked down any scent. I still think it had to be a buck. Then again you would have thought all that scrapping would have dislodged it from the tree it was propped against. I don't know. Maybe I could sell it on ebay.

Ok I was walking around my firing range this morning and happen to notice a few fresh wood chips about 6' back in the trees and went to investagate and found another tree with the bark gnawed up. this one is a small tree and the the gnawed up part looks just like the other one but this tree is alive and the marked up place it about 7' off the ground and not nearly as large as the driveway tree. its only about a 6 to 8 inch section. This tree is maybe 250 to 300 feet from my front door. It almost looks like someone hacked at it with a hatchet but I doubt that happend this close to my door.

That's a big beaver.

It wasn't easy for me to stop where I did there.

Ok I went back and looked at the second tree and I discovered its also dead. I thought it was alive but was wrong. Gazing into my bourbon and coke last night and giving it some thought, I have decided I might have come up with an answer. I know there is a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers living on my place somewhere. I see them from time to time and hear them fairly often. Anyone thats not familar with them, think Woody Woodpecker. They're big birds about the same size as Crows. I think they are the ones that chipped up the dead trees looking for insects or worms. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

Do any of your neighbors have kids? That looks like someone with a machete was playing Daniel Boone.

Well I don't have many neighbors. Closest one is 1/4 mile away but still no kids around anywhere close.

Said earlier in the thread, put out a couple of trail cams and if you can out of view from who or what ever is doing this.
