I generally dislike whiskey and favor bourbon....
Do not try to tell me they're the same or nearly the same.
The only thing I like straight is white corn whiskey. Bourbon gets a little cherry coke.

With good Scotch or Irish, a splash of water will actually bring out the flavor. With cheaper rum, I do like mixing coke with it.

Probably not what most people would call "good whiskey". I have learned, however, that Jack & Diet Coke hit you faster and mix better than Jack & Coke.

I like to put some amaretto in my whiskey to smooth it out. Not into soda though.

Never adulterate hard drinks, specifically my special, Jack Daniels.

I have switched from Jack Daniels to Gentleman Jack. And out of a shot glass or high ball glass. No ice, no mixer. At a picnic or party, I have been known to have a small stainless steel flask.

If yer talking good whiskey: ie.; Woodford reserve, Tullamore Dew or Glenmorangie, just a splash of water to open up the bouquet.
Decent whiskey: ie.; Jim Beam, Jamieson's or Dewar's, a cube or two.
Crown Royal in a Manhatten, light on the sweet vermouth, up with rocks on the side.
Seagram's Seven, make it a hiball!
Finally, let may say, that if you haven't tried Crown Royal Maple Finish, don't, OMG!!!!

Both my kids like that stuff. It's too sweet for my tastes.

Like Winds, I enjoy my Gentleman Jack, just a splash of water and a couple rocks, otherwise I drink too fast. When I'm feeling a bit down (and there are no other Whiskey lovers around), I pull out the Single Barrel Jack just over a couple cubes. I'm a Sour Mash Guy although I can enjoy the Single Grain Irish types also.

Good Scotch, Bourbon, Irish or even a few blends, just a small splash of bottled water to bring out the bouquet.
Any rum, hot black tea.
Good gin, neat Lesser gin, ice and club soda
Vodka, I serve to others, I don't drink it myself.
Brandy (real brandy, not the flavored stuff) can be enjoyed neat, or with a small splash of Cointreau, Benedictine or Amaretto
Tequila, neat, but only when the wind is blowing cold and there's nothing else in camp
