My wife and I are going on 12 yrs and happily married . I dont buy things if I dont have the money . I do not use money from either of our personal incomes. I do side jobs, guns swaps , buy and sell other goods that 99% of the time I make a decent profit off of to purchase my goods , guns, ammo or what ever . If I run across a deal that I really dont have the extra cash that day to purchase it. I may use a credit card if I can ,only knowing I may have to move something else quickly to pay it off at the end of the month, 99% of the time the total balance is paid by the end of the month . I wont make a big purchase if I knowingly cannot pay it off in full at the end of the month.
My gun dealers dont do layaway plans so its not really a option for me . I dont hide them from my wife but I dont use our personal finances either . She knows the combo to the safe and can access it when ever her little heart desires . I told her about finding the little matching pair of Colt consecutive numbered .22 short derringers I found and all she said is how are you going to pay for those . I said no worries its a cash investment , all she said is dont you already have enough investments in the safe and went on about her business
I dont lie about purchases and she has a running list of guns and serial numbers saved on paper and in a link I have saved online that she can access that I update and resend incase there is ever a fire , I pass or what ever , Then she knows what she has to work with incase of a loss and I do have a couple class III items that need to be kept track of . I dont ask about buying something or tell I guess but she knows there was a purchase because of the updated link and list change . I really dont hide the purchase when its added to the list. But then again I dont ask her about the 58 pairs of shoes and 12 purses and hand bags she has in the closet .
Were not loaded by any means but were not strapped either but I do contribute 100% of my check for our household income and if there is something she wants and we have money its there for her , She does occasionally buy me a box of ammo out of the goodness of her heart
. If it makes any difference I cant even tell you what I make monthly , I dont open my checks as its direct deposit , She has the check book and takes care of all the bills and to be honest with you I never ask about it . I can honestly say I think I have written only 4 or 5 checks in the last 10 yrs . I trust my wife in taking care of that stuff and making sure our finances are adequate.
