For The DIY Types
I stumbled on this tonight:

Not sure if this needs to be moved, just thought it was interesting.

Yeah, I kinda figured anything that will remove powder and copper fowling from a firearm wouldn't be a good ingredient for your morning tea.

I like how they made sure to include... Keep away from stupid people! That one gave me a chuckle. The world would be a better/safer place if everything with a label included those words. LOL!

Most people aren't stupid, just ignorant of the risks. If you are going to mix your own cleaners follow the recipe exactly. Don't subsitute ingredients or try to "improve" a recipe unless you know what you're doing.

If you clean a lot, even using commercial products, you should consider doing it outside, throwing a fan in a window, or investing in a good respirator.

I would avoid ammonia in concentrations greater than 10%. IMO the health risks just aren't worth it. Also be aware that ammonia will attack aluminum.

Many of these components are known carcinogens and that's the reason that they're no longer found in commercial products. If you choose to make and use these solutions, it is done at your own risk and should be done with proper PPE.
