Not cooking tonight. A new franchise barbeque place opened a couple of days ago and we're going to try it out. It's called "Dickeys".

Dickey's Range Report:

We just got back.

You stand in line and order at the counter. It's an assembly line process. One person does the meat, the next does the sides and the next handles the register and offers desserts, etc. You take your plate and find a table.

There are rolls of paper towels on the tables instead of napkins. Great idea.

We both had the sliced brisket plate. They come with a choice of two sides and a roll. My wife had green beans with bacon and Caesar Salad. I had barbeque beans and cole slaw.

The brisket tasted good, had nice bark and was tender. However, its texture was more like pulled brisket than sliced.

The barbeque beans tasted like they poured half a bottle of liquid smoke in and smoke was all I could taste. The cole slaw was okay, but too sweet for my taste.

My wife liked her salad. It was served in a little paper ramekin just like the other sides. She liked the green beans with bacon. I tasted them and the texture seemed canned and I couldn't taste the bacon.

Sauces are on the side and you pick your own and put it in cups provided. They have three; original, hot and sweet. The original is tasty and the hot is definitely hot and I liked it best of the two we tried. I didn't try the sweet.

I got double meat and it was $12.95 and my wife had the single portion and it was $10.25.

Drinks are serve yourself. We bought "Big Yellow Cups" for our drinks. (large plastic cups, probably 32 oz.) I had the sweet tea and it was good. Neither too sweet or too bitter. My wife had a coke.

There is no tip jar at the register. Company policy is no tipping.

The staff was very friendly.

I really wanted to like it more than I did, but I think it was mediocre at best.

I like mine with something tart in it. Apricot jam, cranberries, or lingonberries. And lots of butter of course.

I smoked a brisket last night over applewood and hickory. Dry rubbed it with my home made rub and let it sit in the smoker for 3 hours. It was delicious.

That's a bummer. I was hoping that you would say it's amazing.
