last night we ordered hoagie sandwiches from the small local pizza joint in town, along with huge hand-cut steak fries. i got a steak and swiss cheese combo, and the wife got a roast beef and provolone cheese combo. i ordered the 12" hoagie and still got half left over for lunch today!

yesterday, the wife picked up a small beef roast at the store, and this morning she put it in the crock pot, with some fresh carrots, small new potatoes, onions, and green beans. cooked it on high for about an hour nad then low and slow for about ten hours more.

it was one of the most tender and best tasting roast beef and vegetables i have eaten in while. the wife did really, really good! i went back for seconds!

^^^ We used to do something similar over the camp fire in those two piece pie irons. Two pieces of bread, buttered so it wouldn't stick, spoon in canned beef stew, or canned chick and dumplings. Over the fire till bubbling hot. Kinda like a pot pie but better. We filled a few with cherry pie filling and covered with cinnamon and sugar for dessert... Good memories!

I make Runza's similar to that. Sweet dough filled with ground beef, onions and sauerkraut.
