Doc, it's a hybrid of a Darcy tangerine and a Duncan grapefruit. Akin to the Miniola tangelos but much larger and jucier.
Generally you get ones about the size of navel oranges but some get almost grapefruit sized.
They're only harvested in January in Florida so you load up when can.
I do hear they're starting to grow them in California now, and that they'll have a bit later maturation time.

Last night, my wife came home with a pound of fresh jumbo lump crabmeat. I'm going to pull a couple of the Omaha Steaks' filet mignons that my FIL gave us for Christmas. I'll season up the filets with my EatMyDust seasoning and grill those. We'll have a very simple crabmeat cocktail w/cocktail sauce, and sauté the rest of the crab in butter to top the filets.

We'll serve that with a "Bentley's Salad", mesculin greens, chopped walnuts and thin sliced red onion topped with blue cheese crumbles and a raspberry-walnut vinaigrette , a baked potato, crusty bread and wine.

OMG! I'm salivating as I write this.

I miss the fresh fruits and vegetables I'd get in Fl.

Cushmans was bought out (at least their mail order business) by Harry and David, a few years ago. At first I kept getting sub quality oranges but after numerous complaints and replacements, they seem to have put me on the PITA list and I've been getting good ones again.
And I order when they offer free shipping.
Twice today I tried to order Honeybells. The shipping was atrocious. When do you ever see free shipping?

Winds, I get Cushmans catalogs in my mail wherever I move to. They almost always have a code for free shipping.

You can make any orange into a better fruit. Inject the orange with vodka and refrigerate. When it is cold just put it to your lips squeeze and enjoy.
