I used to do that now and then but haven't for a while. I think I'll be doing that before long. I like to saute some mushrooms and toss them in the mix too. I can eat potatoes pretty much any way they can be cooked. Heck, when I'm cutting up fries I end up eating a lot of them raw. Just shake a little salt on then and eat.

This isn't really for dinner today but I always make a pone of cornbread for the wife to use to make dressing for Thanksgiving. I have a 8" iron skillet that is used for nothing but cornbread and its seasoned just right so the cornbread drops out in one piece. I make one for myself sometimes and crumble some of it up in a bowl and pour Buttermilk over it along with cooking some streak o lean in the oven and I got me a meal.

I don't know what I'm having yet but I'm going out to eat tonight.
1st day of my 4 day weekend. I don't feel like cooking squat.

You have a dandy looking pone of bread there string,, we also have a cast iron skillet exclusively for cornbread but it's old like us,, sometimes she bakes it in the oven,, sometimes on the stove top, depending on her mood,, I prefer the stove top,, not as crumbly,, it is almost like a giant dodger or something,, tonight it is deer steaks prepared with mushrooms and cream of mushroom soup, swiss steak style, with mashed taters and corn,, now I want the wife to make some bread,, we'll see,, good eatin' all.

I have never made cornbread on the stove top, only in the oven. I'm going to have to look into that. I have used the stove top to cook hoe cakes. And to all my non-southern friends on here, hoe cakes wasn't invented by a woman of ill repute. It was named after an iron pan they were cooked on that was known as a hoe. A hoe cake looks like a pancake but made from corn meal.

Homemade vegetable-beef soup, biscuits & red wine (see "What are you drinking right now?" thread for wine recommendation).
