Democrats promise a lot, but who will pay the bill? Mon Feb 25, 12:22 AM ET

Democratic presidential contenders Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have both proposed an array of costly spending programs. A sampling:

Clinton

* Health care overhaul ($110 billion annually)

* Energy proposals ($150 billion over 10 years)

* New "GI Bill" education and housing assistance to veterans ($5 billion annually)

* Universal pre-K education program ($7 billion annually)

* Economic stimulus, including housing and heating assistance ($110 billion, presumably one-time)

Obama

* Health care overhaul (up to $65 billion annually)

* Additional health care spending ($40 billion annually)

* "Making Work Pay" refundable tax credit to offset Social Security tax ($62 billion annually)

* $4,000 tuition tax credit ($6 billion annually)

* K-12 education spending ($18 billion annually)

* Doubling budget for basic science ($6 billion annually)

We're talking Democrats. Everybody knows that taxes will pay for this stuff. What's the question?

Quasi, don't forget what you have at the bottom of your post, question everything. Clinton stripped our military by half. Where the sam hill do you think the money came from, out of his ***? Bush on the other hand, was hit with dealing with 9/11. I can crunch numbers to make anybody look good, but that doesn't make them right. Democrats are still notorious for taxing the hell out of us, and I've had to deal with Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush. (I've lived a lot longer, but my folks had to deal with Kennedy and earlier.)

This is a simple question. Those of us that get up every day and go to work will pay for those that don't.

Our military will be stripped bare and the middle class will be taxed to the point where I consider moving to Belize.

Wow, lots to look forward to...

It ain't just the Dems any more. Just look at the Medicare Drug fiasco and all of the money being wasted overseas. Both parties are culpable.

there's a new phrase circulating: STEAL AND SPEND REPUBLICANS.

millons and in some cases billions missing, literally unaccounted for to contractors and $ transfered to iraq. FDA functioning not for we the people but for pharmaceuticals and people dying as a result. corporations paying fewer taxes or offshoring to avoid. the last 7 years have been a financial disaster for this country. afraid of democrats?! somebody is going to have to pay for this mess. we can't continue to borrow from china and elsewhere. how big a debt do we want our grandchildren to inherit?

financial responsibility in government?! the last 7 years have proven it to be impossible.
