You can recover it but it's a royal pain in the ass. Much easier to get money back from a credit card company.

I have had my debit card info stolen twice, 2 diff banks. I believe the first time a bartender wrote down my info and used it that way no idea how they got it the second time. Both time it was relatively easy to get my cash back (maybe im an exception to the pain in the ass rule). went to the bank signed some paperwork and within 24 hours had the cash in my account while they investigated (kinda like a loan while they make sure you didnt get drunk and spend it and lie). Other than having to deal with the numbnuts at B of A wasnt bad at all except for the whole being robbed thing.

I expect it depends on the bank that holds your mortage, I pay mine monthly with auto payment with a credit card issued by the same bank, get the points and the balance is paid off monthly by an auto transfer from my checking account. More than the points it works my credit score, high lending rate on the card and it's paid in full every month. I don't do anything except make certian the money is in the bank for the the rest to happen.

BTW even my debit card has fraud protection

First thing I get rid of when I open a bank account is the debit card. I don't need any more plastic cards and I don't wanna remember anymore stupid pin numbers. Fact is I haven't used an ATM in at least 15 years & if I don't have enough money to buy what I want, then I don't buy anything.
