Cowboy: The 6-Shooters

So this is the one I figured would elicit the most opinions.

I've owned or fired .357s, .44 Mags, .45 longs.

I've had a Security 6 and a Super Blackhawk, both fit and both were comfy. Neither were a problem to shoot.

But I'm open to any brand or caliber.

I'm ambidextrous, should I consider two?

Does the .45 long have an advantage over the .44? Ammo for the .45 seems rough to find.

What say you, pardners?

Benning Boy 03-11-2010 05:31 AM

Oh, and minimum barrel length?

S&W .460..

My uncle just got one.. 2300 fps from a pistol. And you can shoot the .45 colt and the .454 casull..

But the $60.00/20 round price is crazy for the .460's.

.45 Colt just seems like such a pain to find, probably because of the popularity of the Judge.

Well I have A New Super Blackhawk in .44mag with a 7.5 inch barrel, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Ammo is a little easier to find in .44mag but not by a whole lot.

If you're gonna get 2, I'd go for 2 Ruger Vaqueros in either .357 or .44mag. I just got a New Vaquero in .357 and I'm already trying to talk myself out of (or into) getting another one to match it.

I am with Doyle on this one.

if one get a big 7.5" barrel

if Two Rugers Vaqueros would be effing sweet.

A "real" cowboy would shoot a Colt Peacemaker (or replica thereof). It would be in .45 LC, and if you wanted to be real, you'd shoot black powder cartridges. 7-1/2" barrel.

The price difference in a Ruger vs a Colt is insane, but your are correct. A Colt Peacemaker is a hell of a revolver.
