Cool Turtle Rescue Story...
Yes, I like turtles/tortoises...
A veterinarian holds Tzvika, an injured female turtle, at the Wildlife Hospital in the Ramat Gan Safari near Tel Aviv January 5, 2011. About two months ago, Tzvika was run over by a lawn mower and suffered severe damage to her shell and a spinal injury that affected her ability to use her rear limbs. The wheels, attached by veterinarians at the safari, elevate the turtle to keep the shell from being worn down and enable her to walk.

That's cool! I used to pick up a bunch of turtles off the highways when I was a kid and take them home and nurse them back to health.
What do you think they used to fasten those wheels to the shell?

If I see a turtle on the road I'll stop and pick it up. They usually ride home with me and get released into the field behind my house. There is plenty of room for them there.

I agree! We have a lot of Box Turtles here. I stop and try to save everyone I find on the road if possible and bring back to the woods here. Since we live in the boonies. There is very little chance that they will at least be killed by vehicles. In the summer it is nothing to have a turtle walk through the yard. I heard they may live up to 60+ years?

This reminds me of a joke, but I'll spare everyone.
That's great though, I'm glad someone thought of it.

60 year seems very believable to me. I saw a LARGE snapping turtle that was estimated at over 100 years old. It was chained to a dumpster until it could be relocated to a Tunica, MS casino. The old guy who caught it was netting minnows/bait in a backwater off I55 in north MS. Same guy caught a similarly sized one years before & gave it to the Memphis, TN zoo; the zoo peeps provided the info on the animal's age. Size-wise, the one i saw was only just restrained by the attached dumpster, at least 4 or 5 foot diameter & smellier than the dumpster.
