1. I would download all updates related to windows 7 from the Samsung website.

2. Purchase a new hard drive, 7200 rpm, Western Digital or if your laptop is capable for SSD (Solid State Drive).

3. www.newegg.com for Windows 7 - 64 bit based on your process.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832416710

Make sure you setup the recovery disks, create a system repair disc, create a restore point.

Remember security software installed before going on the internet. (Norton. Kaspersky, Panda, AVG, Zone Alarm, Trend Micro - to name a few)

+1 on the SSD. I use it as my OS drive in my home built PVR (recording cable tv on my computer/TV) that thing is lightning fast. You will read about limited life cycle's of SSD's but if you get a current gen (2 or 3) then you're fine. I use mine 24/7 for operating the PVR which is never off and it's still >99% useful life after 9 months of use.

SSD uses less power and will be much faster, the disadvantage is the cost per GB, but I bet you don't even use 70 gigs on your current machine so who cares if you get 125 vs 750.

Supposedly Microsoft is going to release an update, or service pack to make Win 8 more like Win 7.

I can't stand Win 8. It has a 'charms bar'? WTF?

You can check with the laptop's maker. My boss had a laptop with Win 7, and he wanted win XP, they offered him a Win XP disc for $40, so they might give you a deal on a Win 7 disk. Plus, it may come with all the drivers and such already slipstreamed into the disk. Can make life simpler.

Just download Win 7 from the web with a keygen with it. Though that is illegal and you shouldn't steal from multi billionaires because they might go broke.

I will say that overall Win 8 is a great OS. It is the most secure of the windows OS's It comes with build in Virus and malware in my eyes the best on the market. Now with that said they way Microsoft put the start menu was to say the least not smart. These companies Mac, Microsoft, Google(Android) are moving toward a 1 os work for them. This is to streamline and simplify the product lines and make development easier and faster. Mac's next OS will look just like their iOS does now. Just as Microsoft's computer OS looks like their mobile OS does.

Windows 8 works flawlessly on a mobile device better than iOS and Android (Huge Android guy here). It doesn't work so well on a device with a mouse. Logitech does make a touchpad that gives the feel and usefulness of a touch screen.

My recommendation is that if you want to move away from Windows 8 get Ubuntu Linux. It is stable as granite doesn't need virus or malware programs. Does everything windows or OSX can do and it is FREE.

I will stay with Windows 7 Pro or Home versions.

Windows 8.1 is coming later in the year, not sure what the fix action will be?

Interesting. A Nix version is great for security, not good for the average user. Just out of curiosity, at what income level do you believe theft is a crime?

Also, you mention security and downloading illegal copes. You think any of them free OS's might have some built in aftermarket virus problems?

I have not messed with the Nix in a while. Really should build a box and play around with it. Great OS, just not intuitive for me.

Google Ubuntu Linux. It's the most friendly distro to date. there's links in my earlier post too. Get the live CD and you can run it without install on a DVD or memory stick.SD.

It's always a crime. Just like speeding is a crime but you and I still speed every once in awhile. I was just putting it out there that, that is a way. But, really if say 50,000 people steal Win 7 home That is $49 on the internet. That is what Just shy of $2.5 mill. Microsoft makes roughly $73billion a year PROFIT. That is .00003% they lost from those 50k people. When Uncle Bill takes a piss he makes more than that.

What I dislike is the MPAA and RIAA. Who demand you buy music and video for every device you own. If I buy a DVD and I want to have the ability to watch that on my tablet, laptop, PC or hell a watch for that matter I should be able to do that. The way people consume media is different now than 50 years ago. It's getting better but it really is not. If it were up to MPAA RIAA you would have to pay for every piece of music and video for every device you own. For me that would suck. I have a smartphone a 7" tablet, a 10" tablet, a laptop and 4 desktops. They haven't figured out that if they made digital media easier to get and slightly cheaper they would get more people to buy it and not steal it. Priacy is there and it will always be there because not everyone can afford $$$$$.

My son uses Adobe After effects and Adobe Premier Pro for video editing. Those 2 programs alone are almost $2000. That is not counting Photoshop, illustrator, InDesign that he also uses. The pc he runs these on cost his company nearly $8k. Granted this is a pro level setup with 4 30" wide screen monitors.

If you are talking about torrenting a windows OS sure there is a BIG chance you could get one with a virus in it. That is why if you do go that route you need to do a lot of reading and research before smacking that download button.

No need to build a box you can download a live version burn the iso to cd and it will boot and run from the cd for you to try it out. Or you can install it and it will create a boot manager screen that allows you to choose what os you want to boot into.

The nice thing about linux is that there are more flavors than Baskin Robbins ice cream out there.

I have high speed internet. No cable no dish just a 150mbps business class connection at home. I have a monster Home Theater PC that acts like a media server and will stream my media to any device in my home and my devices while I am out of the house as well. It downloads any and all tv shows that I might want to watch. I even have 3 tuner cards in it so I can record up to 9 channels at once. While it is doing that it also removes any and all commercials. I don't watch commercials and I haven't in over 3 years. Well If I want to see one I watch it on youtube. Like the windows phone Wedding commercial.

I don't like paying for 300 channels where 40 of them are spanish I don't speak spanish nor do I care to learn. I live in America I speak ENGLISH. Why should I have to pay for them? I don't watch the history channel except for Top Shot. I don't watch many channels that I am FORCED to pay for because some jerkoff says so.

It is what it is. With the current administration in the White House they are all about wealth redistribution I am just doing my part to help them out. Not that I like any of them at all.

Plus when was the last time some big named band or actor didn't make hundreds of millions of dollars from a movie or an album. I support the artist I like buy buying their music.

You can't take a family of 4 to the movies for under $100 is you each get popcorn and a drink. It is stupid just stupid. Just last year I believe a comedian put a full length show on the internet and told people you can pay for it if you want price is up to you or you can have it for free. You know he made more money off that video than any other he ever put out. So what does that tell you.

I am as honest as I can be until the jackoffs stop being that way. I have ZERO problems with it.
