My wife and I both were sedated.

My wife had her first colonoscopy at 65. They found a tumor.

Thank God it was a stage one, and she was cured by surgical " colonic resection."

If she had waited another year, I would be a widower.

I had one a couple of years before and got a clean bill of health.

I had steak and lobster after the procedure!

Not if you're lucky!

The cockail they use for an endoscopy that starts at the top of the GI tract is basically a date-rape drug. Twilight sleep and a mnemonic (I usually forget how to spell that) inhibitor -- you are awake but only sorta, have no will or gag reflex, they install a bite-block (if they're smart), and when you finally come out of it you won't really remember the invasion. It is much less common for a sigmoidoscopy or even colonoscopy*. Sorry...

*"Unfortunately, non-physicians involved in endoscopies have the reputation for being the most singularly unattractive and marginally qualified in the entire medical field. This issue has been identified as the second major negative perception in the experience of patients and their small children undergoing procedures." SGNA

Yes... I too have had the pleasure of paying some one to shove a hose up my butt with a camera on the end of it. Lightly sedated as before they shove a camera hose up your arse they inflate your bowel with nitrogen which does inflict some degree of pain if you were not at least lightly sedated. The extremely huge gas show afterwards is quite entertaining yet orderless.

Yeah those two (1) quart bottles of X-Prep definately left me a clean colon. Just when you think there can't be anything else left inside your gut...Well you know.

Yup...told my doctor the same thing...."I paid you to do this to me and if I did that to my dog-- they'd throw me in prison." He said "Wait until you need an Cystoscopy, Loudmouth" and laughed. I don't even want to to what the heck that is.....

Cystoscopy is a TV camera up the urethra. (the channel the pee pee comes out of )

I've had it done twice. Local anesthetic, completely painless. Kinda interesting to look inside your own bladder on the TV monitor!

A little hard to maintain control though when the nurse/PA is a drop dead hottie, and she grabs hold of it.
