A lime in a beer bottle not bad. But Damn a worm in a Mescal bottle sure takes some doing.

First: Read up on "Conspiracy of the Machetes" of 1799

Look. In about 1862, the folks of Europe had decided that the Mexican Debt to Europe, which had been defaulted many times, WAS ABOUT due.

France, of all countries. decided to send ships in retrieval of this debt, and invaded Pueblo, Mexico.

They got their ass kicked! They retreated. So Pueblo treats this day as a "Day of Celebration".

The President at the time, of the US of A, Franklin D Roosevelt, decided it was high time to recognize Mexico as an "equal", so he glorified this day.

A year later the French came back and RIPPED SOME ASS!!

Mexico was not a "free" country until "about" May, 1822 when "a mass demonstration led by the Regiment of Celaya" was recognized.

At which time Mexico said to Europe and Spain that they were NOT to be ruled by others.

Cinco De Mayo is a great night of drinking beer, but it represents a very small piece of REAL history.

Mexico has never been free. It has been ruled by an upper class criminal government. It is now an out of control ruled by drug cartels. Their problems have over flowed into the U.S. Why have 12 millon Mexican chosen to relocate into North America? As American citizen you don't want to break any of their laws. No jury trials no writ. Three judges hand down all decisions.

My wife and I were at our favorite Mexican restaurant today. One of the servers we know well was commenting about the madhouse yesterday. He shook his head and commented that he has no idea why Americans celebrate it other than to have an excuse to drink.

It's a day that gives you an excuse to drink Corona and tequila during the day into the night. It's all good by me.

Americans drink green beer and wear shamrocks on St. Patricks Day, they drink Pacifico and Corona, and eat Fajitas on Cinco De Mayo, and if the folks at Smirnoff's Marketing Dept got their act together, would be doing shooters of Vodka to celebrate the October Revolution.
