Yeah, I wish I had at least one. Especially like the fact that they have above average sized eggs. I have one Rhode Island Red that produces jumbo eggs and sometimes a double yoker. But I'm going to look close at the next farmers market for a Ameraucana.

O K I got the Book....RAISING CHICKENS for DUMMIES.....It told me everything I need to know..ha ha...Getting Chicks this Tuesday...Was told to get all the same kind,so I did...Would of had them sooner but I got sidelined with other things-Garden-fixing cj-5 jeep power steering pump-car brakes-to many more to list...Anyway...Going to finely try this Chicken thing...My girlfriend and I where setting-out late the other night about a week-ago,1:00am ...and a rabbit ran by...I didn't even see it,she saw it...Then about five seconds later a skinny..RED FOX..ran by...I could of almost reached-out and kicked-it if I knew it was going to run by that close....I think I'm going to have a problem??.....There are snakes dead all over in the street also....Will Chickens make noise if something is going-on with them late at night,to let me know something is wrong??........

Something tried to kill my chickens last night....It tore a hole in the chicken wire, but didn't get-in...I have the 22 loaded and setting on the window sill....I'm thinking a coon....A trail-cam would be good to let me know what I'm dealing with...My buddy took his back last year...I didn't hear a thing last night,I would think those chickens would make a lot of noise,my dog a shelty/collie mix is not doing his job I guess...He barks at everything else....Anyway...I'll get some shooting practice tonight if it comes back.........

I'll bet it's a coon, too. When they used to get into my sister's chicken coop, they'd massacre as many as they could. My sister would say she wouldn't mind so much if they just took one, but she'd get to her coop, gun in hand, and there'd be dead and dying chickens everywhere.

I hate to say this but yep, you're going to have to shoot that coon.

Thanks for the heads-up...I thought they may kill all the chickens just for sport or something....I can shine the light in the tree's at night and see eye's looking back at me....22 is loaded and ready.....Can't think of nothing to run them off with, other then shooting them....My chickens are very young...only a few months old....I can't think of walking-out in the morning an finding them all dead....That would totally suck....Plus no egg's......

If you read that book, you'd know that your chickens go into a trance-like state at night in the coop while they're sleeping. You could go in and pick them up yourself and they wouldn't even really notice. Therefore, there won't be that much ruckus if a predator gets in.

If I were you, I would shoot all the coons in the tree and call it a night.
