Default Charlton Heston dead at 84

Charlton Heston dead at 84 By BOB THOMAS, Associated Press Writer
3 minutes ago

Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84.

Heston spokesman Bill Powers says the actor died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia was at his side.

Heston revealed in 2002 that he had symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's disease, saying, "I must reconcile courage and surrender in equal measure."

With his large, muscular build, well-boned face and sonorous voice, Heston proved the ideal star during the period when Hollywood was filling movie screens with panoramas depicting the religious and historical past. "I have a face that belongs in another century," he often remarked.

Yes, a great man indeed. A former President of the NRA and a vigilant defender of American rights and freedoms is gone. He will be missed. But he will live on in our hearts and DVD players for generations to come, as a role model for wisdom, strength, determination and courage.

Rest in Peace Mr. Heston.

We're weaker without him.

It's a great loss, but we're stronger because of him.

Charlton Heston was a one of a kind man he made me proud of my American heritage, and NRA membership.

When he hoisted that Musket over his head and stated "From My Cold Dead Hands Mr Gore",a button on my shirt popped

and to think some of those morons on the left coast made fun of him even after he was diagnosed with alzhiemers. That idiot Clooney walked on stage and said "Charleton Heston just announced again that he has Alzhiemers." The audience laughed there a$$ off. Disgusting. There is a reason I have never gone to see one of that idiots movies. Goodbye Mr. Heston, some of us respected you.
