Yep- at one time, you were supposed to have a license, issued by the FCC, to operate a transmitter.
My father was called about his antenna by the FCC broadcast just a little too strong if I remember right. This was in the early 70's.

There was a garage about 15 miles down the highway that was doing some extreme high power CB installs for truckers….But about six months ago three guys in suits showed up and suggested they knock it off, pronto.

No more installs!

I stuck one in my pickup back in the mid 90s. I did a lot of freeway driving back then and I thought it might be a worthwhile piece of equipment. Thousands of miles of bitching truckers, yea. I pulled it out and upgraded the sound system.

Liberals are constantly telling us about the poor and oppressed in this country. With that in mind, why do they feel the need to keep importing poor people from other countries?

Since I saw several other posts mention Ham Radio (Amateur Radio), I thought I would jump back in.

It is now easier than ever to pass the tests and get on the air. Code test are no longer required so jump in!.

and when Obama shuts down the internet and the cell phones, you can still talk with your loved ones.

Oh.... the ARRL is the NRA of Ham Radio. They watch out and lobby for us.
Even Ham Radio is under attack.

I HATE CB'S!!! When I'm working in the cab of a truck on some wiring problem or what ever and I'm concentrating on it then some says something on the CB that the driver left on it scares the $hit out of me every time.

For lots of HAM Radio info check out QRZ.com
CB's are necessary in an 18 wheeler. At shipping and receiving terminals, you are called to the door on your CB and of course keeping track of the cops, oh did I "practically commit a feloney" by posting that comment?

When I had a CB, there was lots of trucker trash talk, idiot kids with base units knocking over the mobile units, people endlessly saying " hello" and " Goodbye ", drivers giving bogus info, people advertising " free " coffee breaks but not telling you they were soliciting charitable contributions for 'Jerry's Kids' and fat girls teasing the men . Similar to an unmoderated Internet forum ...
Well, I'm gonna back on out of here . Been nice ratchet-jawing with you . Keep your shiny side up and your rubber side down . Keep it between the ditches . Have a superfine one today and a better one tomorrow . We'll catch you on flip-flop. We gone. We quiet. Bye bye ....

Years ago I repaired lots of CB's but they are now pretty much disposables. Been thinking about setting up a ham, CBs were coolish but no real power and only 40 channels. The test had kept me away for most of my life, I hated Morse code, failed it in AIT, I go code deaf at about 30 groups a minute! They all sounded like dits at that speed to me! They now have an app for that anyways!

Had one in my old truck. My friends and I ran them. Heard some messed up conversation one night. Eesh.

We use VHF on the river.
