Was reading an article on the French Foreign Legion and this was one of the illustrations but there was no mention of what machine gun this was.

That appears to be a Hotchkiss M1914.

I'll be the first to tell you i dont have a huge knowledge of firearms. i know a little but i get really confused a lot of the time. All the numbers and letters kinda run together on me. All i did was google french foreign legion guns and found a website that listed every gun they use, past and present, with pictures. then when i found the one that looked right and googled it to find the op's original pic. It led to some really good weapons history. The company that helped produce it and one of the engineers that modified it from its original model were Americans.
