I don't think it'd hurt to have all of our youth get some military time. I know we're not based on forced military participation in our country but I think it would inspire more appreciation for what this country has and stands for.

Just my .02 worth

I kick myself in the butt for not having stayed in for twenty.

Less chaos on the inside rather than the outside world.. Plus a nice retirement check after 20.

Two things of great importance - a monthly check for the rest of your life AND medical coverage for you and your spouse for the rest of your life.

Having my medical covered has allowed me to change jobs and careers a number of times since I retired...

Okay, I knew about the check but having medical benefits! That makes it more than worth while!

I worked in the private sector for 12 years after I retired. I can't tell you how many folks I met that stayed in jobs they hated because they couldn't change jobs/companies due to a pre-existing medical condition for them or their family.

With my military coverage (yes, I do pay a bit for it), I've never had to deal with this issue...

There is a few problems with the military though.
#1 You will be away from your wife and family.
#2 You will miss the early stages of your children's lives.

Nothing worth having is free young man. Or I'll borrow a quote: "Freedom isn't Free"

My daughter served in the Army (in Afghanistan) and my son is currently in the Army (he served in Iraq). There is no greater honor or satisfaction than suiting up to serve your country...
