This has always been the established forum. And just as TX has pointed out, sometimes there are people that can't get along with others and should probably leave, but for whatever reason won't do it on their own. If the forum owner can't calm them down, then the eviction button is his only other option. A good forum owner allows free-floating thinking, even if it goes against his beliefs. But no small special-interest group should be allowed to strong arm the entire forum - it creates a "tail wagging the dog" situation and that punishes the silent majority that iis here to learn.

Winds is right. From what I know the two major parties involved created their own forums. Neither of which has all that much traffic. I pop over to one from time to time and not much goes on there.

Okay, I have to ask. What does "BOLO" mean in the title of this thread?

Okay, thanks for the mini-history lessons. The working of forums is interesting to me. I ran what I thought was a moderately successful one for several years, with, as I said, dissent and discussion encouraged. Then, all of a sudden, a minority of members, fueled by the emotions that the 2008 election caused, started posting posts that I felt were inappropriate in a pubic forum. I was finally faced with the realization that if the forum continued it would do so in a manner counter to it's professed philosophy -- increased moderation, moderator editing of posts, even banning members. Rather than run the forum that way I choose just to shut it down.

We try to avoid that here by Moderating fairly and evenly across the board. There are times when action we take is discussed in the Moderator forum. All the Mods are very approachable through PM's if you feel there is a problem with us. Also, Notdku fields many PM's, too. I sometimes tell someone if they don't like what I do, take it to Notdku. He'll either set the complainer straight, or me.

I've only been here a short time; however, it seems to be run in an even-handed, fair manner, which I why I stuck around when I came across it.
