Default Birmingham, AL, Ranges?

I'm going to Birmingham the weekend of July 17-19 to visit my son, daughter-in-law and new grandchild. One of the activities my son asked to participate in is getting familiar with the Rock River AR I gave him for Christmas. I'd appreciate any recommendations, tips or advice anyone could offer on who to contact or what we should look into to try to get some range time that weekend.

Alabama Shooting Ranges - Traderscreek.com
Here's a quick link. Anything around B'ham (Hoover, Trussvile, Leeds). I have been to the one in Gadsden a few times. I don't know how familiar you are with the Birmingham area, hope this helps.

You might check into the Cahaba Wildlife Management Area. There is a Rifle range there. The range may or may not be open. The other rifle ranges in birmingham, that I am aware of, are all private. You will need a WMR permit or a valid AL hunting license to use it. You can get a WMR permit from the check in station. Sorry I don't know where that is.

From my research to date (and responses on other forums), FOP Range seems to best meet our short-term needs. I'll pass all tips along to son while I'm there and he can scout around for the place(s) that best meet his longer term interests. I wasn't active in shooting while he was growing up so we had little opportunity for the father to son passing of the lore and lessons of firearms. As my interest as rekindled, his has developed but distance (and a new grandchild) limit our opportunities to get to the firing line together.
