Walnut! More interesting grain and color if you making something out of it, and more BTU's/Hr if you're burning it!

Oak makes nice kitchen cabinets, lousy back splashes. Walnut makes nice gun stocks. They both make a nice fire. An either/or poll with no qualifiers seems beneath you.

Which is better walnut or oak. That is your qualifier right there.

Nothing wrong with oak but walnut typically has a nicer grain to it.
