The closet store to me that has a selection in which I've not tried most of would be across town. With my work schedule I normally just pick up coors to enjoy a beer when I get home, simplicity sake. The first beer I bought this trip home was Smithwicks and the Sam Adams winter pack. Not to bad.

What would you recommend in a national "craft" beer as we live on opposite ends of the country?
Not sure how you can sample some of the best craft beers out there given the geographic challenges. I am not going to be participating because I have gone on the wagon. Happy to provide input based on memory though.

I do, it happens every so often.

They're all state liquor stores... Welcome to Utah. Only place you can buy liquor, you can buy beer in grocery stores and stuff except on Sunday.

Is the beer in Utah still that weak 3% or whatever?

A place in Dublin, Ohio. Its called World Market and has a rediculous amount of craft beers from around the world.

You pay the price, but the experience alone is worth it most of the time.

From what I understand and what I have been told it's the same amount of alcohol they just measure it differently. % by weight rather than volume.

Utah beer had a lower alcohol content than other states the last time I was there which was quite a few years ago. I just looked it up and it is 3.2% by weight, or 4% by volume (the more common way that I am familiar with) which is "Mormon" beer (weaker than is available in other states). My favorite beer is Eye of the Hawk by Mendocino Brewing Company which is 8% alcohol by volume. It said you can get stronger beer at the state stores, but as I recall that wasn't the case when I was there back in the '80', it was 3.2% everywhere.

I don't usually buy beer, it could be that there is a limit on what they can sell, percentage wise, outside the liquor stores.

I also rarely visit the liquor store but next time I'm there I'll take a look.
