A Kroger plastic bag.
I work in sampling in an ore mill at a large mine, so anything that goes even as far as the parking lot is going to be coated in ultrafine dust within minutes.
The only things I take to work are my lunch and my kindle pad on weekends for music in my lab.

I've got lunch down to almost 100% disposable stuff. I don't even take a cooler anymore. I have a refrigerator. Just grocery bags, baggies, and to go containers I buy at a restaurant supply store. Nothing goes back up the hill to my vehicle.

My pad goes into a Ziploc baggie and a shopping bag.

What about the hybrid, the "messenger bag". It's kinda like a soft-sided briefcase with a shoulder strap, and kinda like a one strap backpack with a big flap closure. Some look very spiffy; some look a leeeetle too much like a murse.

I avoided the situation. When I need to carry work files and such, I use a ancient, soft-sided "audit case" that a relative liberated from a former employer. If you lug enough crap, an old audit case might serve your purposes.

I picked up a nice, no-name, water-proof, zip-lockish bag for my ipad, ~$20. Might be an improvement, as it has some padding.

I attend lots of meetings and I don't give a rats arse if I take a brief case or a back pack , I have both . If I'm packing light I take the brief case , If I have a bunch of sh!t with me I take the back pack . They are a tool not a fashion statement.

Dress for the job you have; not the one you want. I would look really silly showing up Monday morning dressed as an astronaut.
And if you want me to wear fourteen pieces of flair, then why don't you make the minimum fourteen?
