I remember clearly that day and the era. It was a great and exciting time to be a kid when the role models like Armstrong were a truly positive influence on our lives and the lives of Americans on the whole. Such a stark contrast to today.

Rest in Peace Commander!

Little known to most. Buzz Aldrin gave communion to Armstrong in the module before exiting for the moon. Nasa knew about it but cut transmission to the public at last minute.

Recreation of the event in link.

It's a shame he didn't live to see us make going to the moon a frequent event. Thanks for your service, sir, and rest in peace.

Lots of people admired him. Just because you don't talk about someone 24/7 doesn't mean you don't appreciate them being alive

Neil Armstrong (1930-2012) was not entirely human. He was the spiritual repository of our spacefaring dreams & ambitions. In death, a little bit of us all dies with him. Farewell my friend. And now, perhaps more than ever, I bid you godspeed. -Neil deGrasse Tyson
