Default Anyone Know Anything About Ashworh College?

I am thinking of taking an online Home Study course that will get me certified in HVAC. Lots of jobs out there in the field and I do know a little bit about it. This would be my first online course, so I could use some feedback on that too. I have over 20 years experience as an auto mechanic but don't really want to go back to that line of work again (unless I get a job at Tesla- but that would be in manufacturing). Best case scenario i could hold two jobs at once. Lots of part time work in HVAC and the Tesla position is swing shift. That would work out sweet!

I have never heard of it, but it claims to be an accredited school.

I read through that ripoff report list and it seems that most of the complaints are for high school diplomas, and many of them seem to be due to payment problems of one sort or another. Thanks for the link!

Anybody else have any input?

I used to be an HVAC tech. When I graduated from college I had a tough time finding a job so I went to work with a friend who's dad owned acompany. I enjoyed the work enough that I was did it for 5 years (until I got my current job). I took a few classes to help with control wiring but I feel it is a skill that can only be learned by hands on application. I don't know about California's laws regarding the process to get a refrigerant liscense but in NC you can just get the book and study (It is common sense). It seems like you are mechanically inclined so you should have no worries. If you want to get into the industry call around and just ask about openings. Most companies I have had dealings with prefer people with mechanical experience over those with a degree. Youtube videos are a great help with questions as well.

You have valid points, the job opening I am looking at specifies a licensed HVAC tech. I can fake the rest of it (I am a certified Master Automotive Tech, with certs in air conditioning- so its nothing new to me).

So what do you do now? And why did you leave the industry if you liked it?

I am a project manager at a architectural precast company and do sales as well. The main reason I left the business was I got a better job offer and was tired of not having anytime off in the summer/winter. I missed a lot of duck hunting due to fixing heaters. We also worked on commerical refrigeration and since it was a small company we were on call 24/7.

It's headquarters is up the road from me in Clinton, IA. It does have a real campus with real students. Last I heard, they were having some issues with their accrediting body, but that's not unusual.

Can you elaborate?
