Default Anyone have friends or family in Iraq / Afhganistan?

I was wondering if you could ask them if the native scorpions are really as big of a problem as I've heard. I'm thinking of buying a case of these UV scorpion lights and sending them over to some unit. (My brother was in GW1 but he's on deployment and can't be reached for another 6 months or so).

SEND THEM!

Scorpions are horrible there, and so are camel spiders. I've been deployed to Iraq (LSA Anaconda, 50 miles north of Baghdad) in 2006-2007.

Any unit you send them to will greatly appreciate it, and will get good use out of them.

I can't remember how many times I've found scorpions in nook and crannies while I was there. *shudder*

Perhaps we could start a collection from the good members here and send one good sized shipment?

Just a thought -

Have you guys started grilling the camel spiders yet? They're delicious.

ewwwwww.......

That's nasty.......................

Never grilled them, just killed them when I could (they skitter around really fast).

Of course, maybe if I was hungry enough, and had enough hot sauce....lol.

2 step brothers and 2 cousins in Iraq, one cousin in Korea and one cousin on a submarine somewhere. Iraq family says the big scorpions aren't the problem, its the little ones. Those plus the face-hugger like spiders

I'm all for the group effort, the more we can do the better. It would probably be best if one of the admins here handled the paypal account, just let me know. I'll set up a website and see if other people want to help out.

If anyone has a friend or relative deployed let me know, I don't have a specific unit chosen or anything.

I'd like to get an idea of other items they need over there which aren't being covered in the usual gift boxes. Yellow ribbon magnets on cars are nice and all but considering what a raw deal our soldiers are getting both on deployment and afterwards I'd like to do more. I know things are tight but something like this is affordable while being a useful item they probably have to pay for out of pocket.

Anyway, if this goes well I'd like to get in touch with some of the troops and see what else is needed. I know air miles help quite a bit as they have to pay to fly home in some cases, I donated quite a few last year back when I was traveling full time. Thanks for the suggestions and offers to help out, sooner would probably be better than later given current events.
