Default Anyone else use a straight razor?

I recently bought a straight for myself as a birthday gift. I decided to be frugal and purchase a disposable blade variety (glad I did, otherwise I couldn't afford my new pistol!) But I still enjoy the process, frothing up a rich lather, and making sure not to cut myself, and so on. My setup here is an Escali badger brush, a Parker SRW shavette, Shark half-DE blades, and Edwin Jagger sandalwood shave soap.

And yes, that is a real monocle there.
After I save up more money and get more accustomed to the process, I will be moving up to a real straight and getting all the accessories that go with it (strop, stone, silvertip brush, etc.)

Anyone else here prefer a straight over multi-blade disposables?

I use my monocle slightly less than I use my straight razor.

I have tried a straight razor before. I still think my gillet fatboy doble edge safty razor was better. I did use shaving soap and a brush and I liked that a lot better than the shaving cream. I finaly gave in and grew a beard for last winter and will see how long I am allowed to keep it.

I enjoy shaving with a straight razor as well.. Even though im young I like doing things the old fashion way. The guy at the shop was so surprised a teenager wanted a straight razor... How does the disposeable blade razor work? I have one but cant find the right blades for it. The razor i use is a Solingen from Germany. You really shouldnt need a stone if you use the strop before everytime you use it, ive been using my razor for years and havent had to take a stone to it.

I am fascinated by knives & razors so I own a few but do not use them. The engineer in me elects to use safety razors instead. I am just more efficient that way.

Default Straight Razor Use

I often used a straight razor for shaving when I was younger, and in later times when the whiskers were long and many days growth, I live ina rural area and am retired so daily shaving isn't a necessity.

Still have and use a shaving mug with shaving soap in it and a brush as it's handier than that canned lather.

But for shaving usually use a Bic throwaway until they get dull, my whiskers get several shaves with one.

Proper sharpening of straight razors requires a little know how, the right stone and then the razor strap or strop. I've always held that juvenile delinquency began with Gilette Safety Razors and the abscence of our Dad's old razor strap to tan our butts with when needed !!! I still have one.
