Over the years after that, I saw a culture change to where people thought anything other than Gold was ****. People began saying “We’re number one! We’re number one!” in any endeavor or discipline regardless whether it was sports, health care, education, etc. As if all it took to make it true was believing it, regardless of the reality.

"Being there" has never been an honor. The American attitude has always been about winning. The Miracle only highlighted it because the odds were 1:100.
In fact "participation trophies" have become popular just recently.

Farm raised meat!!! Not wild meat. Jeeeze!!!

Feed lots use a tremendous amount of antibiotic doped hormone drugs for no other reason other than get faster and larger growth out of farm raised meat. Makes more profit for growers with higher yields and lower costs. It's nothing new, has been going on for well over 50 years.

Disagree. Texting is great (within limits of course), I can relay info without actually talking to anyone! An electronic sticky note if you will. No wasting extended periods of time calling chatty people, just send a quick phrase and you're done. It's efficient and eliminates unneeded blathering. Nothing unmanly there.

Carrying on long, drawn out exchanges like adolescent girls is another matter.

I text quite a bit. I never know when my kids or my friends are at work, in school, sleeping, etc. The beauty of text is the recipient reads and responds at his/her convenience.

I blame TV dinners and the automatic transmission.

I think that Nightstalker was trying to make the point that WW2 vets became The greates Generation because they were drafted. I don't agree that there is a correlation. if anything they were great in spite of it!

Plenty of story's over here about women walking past work sites and the complimentary wolf whistles or a bloke commenting on how attractive a woman is without any suggestive comments and then next thing a sexual harassment charge is being made.

The way the harassment laws are these days makes it very hard to interpret whether a smile or glance is an invitation to say good day or the start of a legal challenge.
Makes approaching some women like playing Russian Roulette at times.
Just because a dog wag's it's tail doesn't mean it's friendly
