Color, head shape. markings? Snakes are good at keeping the rodent population under control, so I don't kill them. But, I am careful to wear boots in the woods on my property because the copperheads are pretty common here. There are always exceptions, but they'll normally try to avoid contact with humans. I stepped outside into my garage one time, just in time to spot one headed across my driveway toward the garage. He spotted me about the same time, did a 180 & if he'd had wheels, he'd have left rubber.

Aren't cottonmouths usually fatter than that, generally?

Ya, ive seen some pretty fat stubby ones, i dont know why that one isnt. Maybe its a rat snake

The only snakes we have that can't bite you are Waffle House Snakes...they don't have any teeth.

This Damn Sidewinder bit my Gordon Setter while we were Quail hunting. The dog lived the snake died. I had not had my dogs anti Snake Bite Booster shot so the pup was sick for a few days.
