Here's my Carvin strat kit next to my Carvin DC127. Both of them have been modified by me.

Did you use tung oil on the kit you built? If so, are you happy with it?

The neck is poly wiped and the body is spray shellacked. I love it but alas I sold it because I was in a pinch. I still have my DC127 and my custom handmade guitar by a luthier. Two guitars I won't let go ever.

here's my handmade.

Cool. I am not sure about finish yet. I don't want to use a finish that will mess with the tone.

Tung oil is fine if you like the wood grain.

That is the finish I am going for. I am afraid of using poly or similar. I have heard different things about how it changes the tone. I have heard that tung oil is good and for paint, to use a nitrocellulose paint as opposed to a poly finish unless you can keep the poly to a couple thousandths of an inch. I am not a paint expert and I want the wood grain look, so tung oil it is. I only play my guitars in the comfort of my home so I am not needing anything that will protect the wood from denting.

I like wood grain myself. That's why my Carvin kit strat has a Walnut body. The guitar was $379 basic but I had over $200 in upcharges. The pick guard was a custom job from another place and I put it together. I also had an SSS setup for it as well called the Tuxedo look.
