Just an update, I found a one year old boy that's about 30 miles away. I'm going later in the week to meet him. He's a border collie/lab mix named ace

Sorry for your loss. Some of us, like our furry family, just like family. My wife and I see them as important family members, that we love watching out after, and spending time with them. We have a pair of Maltese.

My daughter is visiting this weekend she brought her pup and she has made herself right to home. Bethany wanted to fire sig 40 and her dog daisy has never been around any gun fire. She seemed to have no problems.

If you are in an apartment when you have the dog I would go for a Golden. The Border Collies are great, smart dogs, but they need a lot of exercise. Also if you don't have a "job" for them to do, they can be inventive and destructive. By a job, pick up sticks in the yard, check the yard perimeter, or almost anything they can take on as thier duty. They are herders, and look for duty. Great dog, and really bright, just active.

A Golden is a more quiet dog, that a good walk will do for exercise for the short term. Then chasing and returning a ball is good.

I have never owned either, but friends who have owned both have described them to me that way.

You described the Border Collie quite accurately.

Tell Bethany to lean into the pistol. Great that she wants to learn.

I wanted to say something, but I was sure she was corrected after pic was taken. My son liked to lean back in the beginning too. Trying to focus on the sights and target at the same time. It also cracks me up seeing beginners stick their tongue out while concentrating on the sights. "You are going to bite it off.."

Don't know if climate plays a factor for you......but I worry about Goldens in the hot humid SoFL climate. Whatever breed you choose, RESCUE dogs rock!
