From Anti-gun to Gun owner

I stumbled on this today and found it interesting , It left me to wonder if her stance on guns in the first few paragraphs , is how most antigunners or fence riders feel ?
Its kinda long but well worth reading .

Very interesting article. I think many are weary of guns before they begin shooting, or until they shoot regularly.

Good article. But an unloaded gun is not going to do her much good...by the time you realize you need it it's too darn late to be fumbling to load it.

Do you know who R is ?

I'm at work and I don't have time to read that article right now but I will read it later today.

I was afraid of guns for the vast majority of my life.......because I didn't know better. After I bought my GP100, I stored it empty. It's a 'process' getting used to guns. Again, I haven't read the article but I would imagine as she grows accustomed to having a gun around, she will learn to trust it and herself to store it loaded.

I have 3 guns in the safe next to my bed. I only keep one loaded......and that's the revolver. I'll learn to trust myself enought to keep the semi's loaded but I'm "just not there yet". As I learn and grow, I get more used to it all.

Baby steps........sometimes we have to be happy with baby steps.

Mobilemarine, I think this is exactly what anti-gunners go through. Between fear of a device that blows up in you hand and Hollywood's constant sensationalism and misinformation, they have a fear that is not easy to dispel. Just like the author, until moving into the middle of gun culture, she had no clue how to get information. We find it because we want to work at searching it out, but it's not like you see "Free Shooting Information Day" every three months at ranges and gun clubs.

If we would open our sport to anti-gunners and make it easier to access, we might turn the tide in our direction.

I almost spewed my coffee on my KB at her reaction after her first shot at the range..."F&?#k!". That was my reaction the first time I shot a pistol larger than a .22. Again a result of TV and the little "phfft...phfttt" of almost any gun they seemed to fire.

As for opening the sport...I think it IS open. We love nothing more than turning a non-gunnie into an avid shooter. A little prime time coverage of shooting as a sport might help, but I don't suppose we will ever get that from the liberal media.
